Students at Port Matilda Elementary School in Centre County are spending the rest of the school week doing activities related to Earth Day.

On Thursday, the students participated in painting bird houses, planting trees and crops, and more; and students will plant more seeds and flowers on Friday.

The Port Matilda staff chose to continue Earth Day student activities in memory of long-time elementary school employee Bindy Bracken.

“I’m betting she’s loving it and smiling, just sitting back and glad that we’re doing it and keeping it going. We want to keep the traditions that she started, and her enthusiasm going. And I’m sure she’s looking down on that.”

Bracken passed away over the summer.

She originally organized the school’s Earth Day activities.
