Laurel Hill State Park is not accepting new arrivals to its campground because the conditions are unsafe after a storm knocked over trees, light polls, and power lines Thursday night park officials said.

They said it is not known right now how long the campground will be closed.

"Making sure that our campground is safe for visitors is our number one priority right now," Assistant Park Manager Kelsey Hope said. "It's going to be a long cleanup process until we can get to that level we're comfortable with of safety to allow visitors back into our campground."

Hope said in the meantime the park is still open for hiking, and there are other opportunities to stay overnight at the Hufman and Copper Kettle Lodges.

She said Kooser State Park is also in their complex, about four miles away from Laurel Hill State Park, and is available for overnight guests.
