Authorities in Cambria County say an investigation is underway after a human skull was reportedly found Thursday night near the Little Conemaugh River in Conemaugh Township.

Officials with the coroner's office say the skull was reportedly found by a fisherman around 8 p.m.

Investigators say they are focusing on identifying the remains at this time.

Cambria County coroner Jeff Lees says his office is working with a forensic pathologist, a dentist and an anthropologist to identify the skull.

Further details are expected to be released at a later time.

Officials note that this is an active investigation and various state and local agencies are involved.
