SOMERSET - Former Penn State assistant football coach and convicted serial child molester Jerry Sandusky is now serving his sentence in another Somerset County prison.

Susan McNaughton, communications director for the Department of Corrections, confirmed Friday that Sandusky, 73, was moved on Jan. 8 from State Correctional Institution at Somerset to SCI-Laurel Highlands.

“We move inmates throughout our system on a regular basis,” McNaughton said in an email. “This was simply a routine transfer.”

SCI-Laurel Highlands is a minimum security facility located on State Route 31, about three miles east of the Somerset Interchange of the Pennsylvania Turnpike.

State prison officials initially assigned Sanudsky to SCI-Greene in 2012. He then moved to SCI-Somerset in February 2017.

Sandusky is serving 30 to 60 years in prison for his 2012 conviction on charges that he molested several boys.
