Somerset Co., PA (WJAC) — Authorities in Somerset County say a man is behind bars after he reportedly assaulted and threatened a woman over the weekend, and then stole her car, all while the two were traveling along Route 219.
Police say on Saturday, officers were dispatched to Route 219 southbound, near the Jerome exit, for a report of a domestic disturbance.
Investigators say the victim told officers that she was driving her vehicle along the highway and that 42-year-old Justin Klink, who is known to her, was in the passenger seat.
Police say the victim explained that Klink is homeless and had recently been staying with her.
According to the affidavit, during the drive, Klink and the victim reportedly began arguing.
Police say the victim told officers that Klink became "very loud and aggressive" and then punched her in the head and face.
Authorities say Klink then reportedly grabbed the victim by the throat and began choking her.
Police say, during the alleged assault, Klink reportedly pulled out a handgun from his backpack and struck the victim in the head with it.
Investigators say the victim was eventually able to stop the vehicle, at which time Klink allegedly pointed the gun at her and threatened to kill her if she called the police.
Police say Klink then "jumped" into the driver's seat as the victim was able to escape the vehicle.
Authorities say Klink then attempted to back the vehicle up towards the victim but was stopped by a bystander.
Police say Klink then drove away prior to officers arriving on scene.
Police noted that the victim had visible facial injuries and marks.
According to online court documents, Klink was later taken into custody by Conemaugh Township Police.
He is being housed at the Somerset County Prison on various charges, including aggravated assault, strangulation, reckless endangerment and making terroristic threats.
His bail has been set at $75,000.
