ALTOONA, Pa. (WJAC) — A train derailed near Altoona Monday night causing delays and cancellations for Tuesday.
Officials say a train traveling from New Jersey to Chicago, Illinois, derailed five cars right near the Horseshoe Curve railway.
The derailed Norfolk Southern train was traveling westbound through the Altoona area.
All five of the derailed cars were flatbed and were carrying 28 empty shipping trailers so, there were no concerns when it came to hazardous material.
Because of the derailment, Amtrak said trains 29 and 51 were almost an hour late.
Train 42 left from Harrisburg and train 43 was terminated.
Norfolk Southern says they had employees work overnight to clear, repair, and inspect the tracks.
They also say work will continue in that area to remove the empty trailers and cars.
Officials say no one was injured, but the cause is under investigation.
