JOHNSTOWN, Pa. (WJAC) — After almost three decades of life on the farm, the owners of Faranda’s farm in Somerset County are ready to sell their 44 acre business.
Philip Faranda, the owner told Channel 6, “People ask me what do we do with the farm, what do we grow? And my answer is we entertain people”
And the Faranda’s did just that, entertained Somerset County and the surrounding areas all year around on their farm.
During the past 28 years, Faranda’s Farm has hosted many events such as school field trips, hayrides, weddings and so much more.
Faranda added, “So, the response from the community has really been positive and that’s why we would really like to have someone take over what we've done, to carry on what we did.”
Philip and his wife Mary started the farm in early 90's just for pumpkin picking and eventually started annual festivals such as the beloved Garlic Festival each August. And over the years as their business grew so did their knowledge of agriculture and tourism.
Philip told WJAC, “We are on board to educate the new owners and to take the pressure off of them on a ‘What are we going to do next’ kind of a thing and just help them out. I put a lot of time and energy in here and to see it just go by the way side is not my goal, I would like to see it carry on.”
As for why they're selling the farm Philip told 6 news,
“It was just time. Am I gonna like leaving the farm? No. It’s a bittersweet situation, its just time.”
The Faranda’s are more than happy to coach the new owners into pursuing a career and life on the farm.
