Employers and hopeful future employees gathered at the 1st Summit Arena at the Cambria County War Memorial in Johnstown for the 22nd annual Cambria County Job Fair.

Job Fair organizers tell 6 News that unemployment in Cambria County is the lowest it's been in decades and events like this can really make a difference.

“There’s a lot of openings in the area,” said Dave Grimaldi, the Director of Workforce Development with JARI. “There are lots of manufacturing jobs, everybody’s in need of welders, C&C operators, healthcare positions, engineers; just a variety of jobs, you know available.”

Grimaldi says the unemployment rate in Cambria county is hovering around 4.9 percent.

“Which is extremely low,” added Grimaldi.

Still, Grimaldi says there is a nationwide crisis when it comes down to employers actually filling positions.

“We have over a hundred employers represented here and so far, job seekers have been filing through all morning so it’s so far so good," said Grimaldi. "Hopefully it continues into the afternoon.”

The job fair was open to job seekers of all ages and Alfonso Sanders is just one of the many who attended the Cambria County job fair Tuesday.

“I applied for jobs, schools, you know trying to get my life together,” said Alfonso Sanders. “I came with ten applications, so I gave away ten of them. This is my last application you see me filling out.”

Sanders, like Grimaldi, believes having a job fair like this is crucial to helping job prospects and employers across the county and country.

“This lets you know whose hiring, especially if you need a job," added Sanders. "It’s a lot of nice paying jobs here, you don’t have to worry about getting paid under ten dollars an hour.”

Grimaldi tells Channel 6 the job fair happens the first week of May every year.
