Baltimore gas station owner battles open-air drug market, says city response lackluster

Baltimore (WBFF) — A frustrated gas station owner is sharing his concern about a familiar and lingering issue for Baltimore -- open-air drug markets. When he spoke to Fox45 News Tuesday, he singled out three people allegedly involved but says the city is doing little about it. Muhammad Sajid calls the Shell gas station on Edmondson Avenue near Swann Avenue a hotbed for open-air drug dealing. Our cameras were there Tuesday when Sajid pointed out a group of suspected dealers sitting across from the store waiting patiently for customers.

Additional carbon monoxide detectors to be installed at North Star HS, officials say

AFTERNOON UPDATE |SOMERSET COUNTY, Pa (WJAC) — North Star School District officials are providing another update on the ongoing carbon monoxide testing at the high school following Thursday's incident that left dozens of students feeling ill. Officials say the EPA has conducted additional testing overnight and throughout the day Friday. To date, all air quality readings have been negative for any chemical or environmental conditions of concern inside the building.Investigators say that despite the negative readings, the school is planning to install additional carbon monoxide detectors within the building before students return to class on Monday.

(TND) — President Joe Biden's reelection campaign launched a summer effort Wednesday to engage Black people, a critical part of his bloc of voters. Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris visited Philadelphia for the launch of “Black Voters for Biden-Harris.” "We will continue to be aggressive, innovative, and thorough in our work to earn the support of the very voters who sent Joe Biden and Kamala Harris to the White House in 2020 and will do so again in 2024,” said Quentin Fulks, Biden's principal deputy campaign manager, according to The Associated Press.

Woman killed following early morning, head-on crash on Somerset Pike

Somerset Co., PA (WJAC) — Cambria County Coroner Jeff Lees has identified the victim of an early morning, head-on crash on Somerset Pike. Lees says 58-year-old Margaret Holdsworth suffered multiple blunt force trauma injuries in the crash. 911 officials say first responders were dispatched to the 2600 block of Somerset Pike, around 5:30 a.m. Monday, for the two-vehicle collision. Authorities with the Conemaugh Township Police Department say Holdsworth's vehicle crossed into the opposite lane of travel and struck an oncoming vehicle.

Dive crews called to search Pittsburgh rivers, help solve cold cases; over 100 cars found

Pittsburgh (WPXI) — Two dive teams are in Pittsburgh this week as authorities continue to look through cars they found in the waters of the Allegheny River. Investigators say they found and identified one body over the weekend and now they're looking for two more people who have been missing in the area. Divers have located more than 100 cars, so far, in the river and our NBC Affiliate WPXI got an exclusive, first-hand look at how the search is going.

African serval on the loose in Illinois, officials say

DECATUR, Ill. (WICS) — An African wild animal is on the loose in in Illinois, according to the Macon County Animal Control and Care Center. The organization said the animal escaped from its owner and is believed to be on the northeast side of the city of Decatur. It wasn't immediately known how it escaped. Officials said they are working with an exotic animal rescue to capture the serval. They added they consider it to be dangerous because it is classified as a wild animal.

Penguins to select 14th in upcoming NHL draft

Pittsburgh (WJAC) — Following Monday night's NHL Draft lottery, the Pittsburgh Penguins now know where they will select in the first round of next month's draft. Pittsburgh received the 14th overall selection for the upcoming 2023 NHL Draft, which will be held in Nashville in late June. This is the highest selection Pittsburgh has had since 2012. The Chicago Blackhawks "won" the draft lottery and right to select future "generational talent"

PA Turnpike Commission approves increase in toll rates for 2022

PENNSYLVANIA — The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission has approved a 5% toll increase for both E-ZPass and toll by plate customers. That change is scheduled to go into effect on Jan. 2, 2022 and will be for the entire system expect the Southern Beltway west of Pittsburg. Turnpike CEO Mark Compton says this rate increase is lower than normal, something customers should appreciate. Today’s action is the first time in six years that the rate of increase is under 6%.
