'Issue' affecting online, mobile banking resolved

PITTSBURGH (AP) -- Pittsburgh-based PNC Bank says an unspecified "issue" affecting its online and mobile banking services has been resolved. The bank announced the problem on its PNC Bank Help Twitter feed before 11 a.m. Tuesday, then said it was fixed about three hours later. PNC called it a "technology hardware issue" but didn't get more specific. The bank had urged customers to use automatic teller machines or visit its branches to handle any transactions while the problem persisted.

UPMC Altoona to open outpatient center in Ebensburg in 2018

EBENSBURG – UPMC is coming to Cambria County in early 2018 with the opening of a $20 million outpatient facility. It will be located near Route 22 and Route 219 in Ebensburg. UPMC Altoona’s construction of the three-story, 46,500-square-foot facility at Zeman Road will bring world-class care close to home through UPMC, which is ranked No. 12 in the prestigious U.S. News & World Report annual Honor Roll of America’s Best Hospitals.

Coroner IDs deceased victim of mass shooting at Indiana County community center

2nd UPDATE |INDIANA COUNTY, Pa (WJAC) — Indiana County coroner Jerry Overman has identified the deceased victim of Sunday's early morning mass shooting at the Chevy Chase Community Center in White Township. Officials say 22-year-old Jamar Montae Porterfield Herriot Jr., of Homestead, Pa, was reportedly attending a party at the community center when he and eight others were shot. Overman has ruled Herriot's death as a homicide and noted that he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Fugitive wanted for assaulting Philadelphia police officer, authorities say

PHILADELPHIA (TND) — A $5,000 reward is being offered for information that leads to the arrest of a fugitive who assaulted an off-duty Philadelphia police officer, authorities announced Monday. The U.S. Marshals Service Philadelphia said multiple agencies are searching for 38-year-old Arthur Jones. “A fugitive who has been charged with assaulting a law enforcement officer becomes a priority case for this task force. We are hoping the public can provide information which will expedite bringing a dangerous individual to justice,” said Supervisory Deputy U.

Mount Union man arrested after leading officers on multi-county chase

HUNTINGDON CO, Pa (WJAC) — According to Mount Union police, a Mapleton man was arrested and charged earlier this week after leading officers on a multi-county chase. Police say 37-year-old Bradley McMullen faces over a dozen charges, including aggravated assault, fleeing police and disorderly conduct. Police say on the night of August 10th, officers attempted to stop McMullen's vehicle for a minor traffic violation. Authorities say McMullen failed to stop, resulting in a high-speed pursuit that ended when he crashed his vehicle in Mifflin County.

Altoona community hosts vigil for slain 15-year-old

ALTOONA, Pa (WJAC) — People in Altoona came together Friday to remember the 15-year-old who was shot and killed this week. Members of the Altoona community gathered outside Jefferson Park for a vigil for Altoona School District student Devon Pfirsching, who was killed in a shooting Tuesday night. A wooden cross with Devon’s name inscribed is attached to the fence outside Overflow Church near Jefferson Park. A collection of flower bouquets has grown over the last several days as friends, neighbors and classmates stopped by to pay their respects.

Clairton, Monessen on 5 years' probation after basketball game brawl

PITTSBURGH — An athletic league has placed the sports programs of the Clairton and Monessen school district on five years' probation among other penalties following a fight involving players and fans at a high school boys' basketball game last week. The Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic League said Monday that probation applies to all sports. Any violations will mean a tournament ban for that sport for the season, and both schools must begin a sportsmanship program with consequences for bad behavior.

Man charged with murder in Philadelphia store stabbing that killed security guard, wounded another

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — A man accused of stabbing two security guards who stopped him from stealing merchandise from a department store in Philadelphia - killing one and critically injuring the other - has been charged with murder and several other counts, prosecutors said Tuesday. Tyrone Tunnell, 30, was being held without bail and a preliminary hearing in his case will be held within two weeks. Prosecutors said they did not know if he has an attorney.

Man charged with burglary, raping woman at Altoona Motel 6

LOGAN TOWNSHIP, Pa. (WJAC) — Police arrested a man they said forced his way into a woman's hotel room and repeatedly raped her for 6 1/2 hours. According to Logan Township police, 51-year-old Kevin Thompkins assaulted the victim sexually and physically at a Motel 6 along Sterling Street from 11 p.m. Friday until 5:30 a.m. Saturday. In a criminal complaint, the victim told police she and Thompkins had been on-and-off friends for about a year.

JC Penney holds hiring events in DuBois, Altoona, Johnstown

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. (WJAC) — Just as an announcement from JC Penney comes that it is closing dozens of stores across the country, JC Penney in three area locations announced it is expanding. Monday, a hiring event was held at the Johnstown galleriaGalleria to help fill 70 hairstylist positions for its DuBois, Altoona and Johnstown stores. At the hiring event, applicants were also able to learn a few new skills that they'll be able to take with them no matter where the opportunity takes them.
