Tornado touches down near Chicago's O'Hare airport amid severe weather warnings
CHICAGO (AP) — The National Weather Service says a tornado has touched down near Chicago's O'Hare International Airport following warnings of severe weather for the city.
A confirmed tornado was on the ground around 7 p.m. Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service in Chicago.
"This tornado has been touching the ground intermittently so far and is moving east. There are additional circulations along the line south of O'Hare. Seek shelter if in the warned area,"

New Year's Eve Bedford rescue operation transforms lives of nearly 100 neglected dogs
BEDFORD COUNTY, Pa (WJAC) — The Bedford County Humane Society took in what they call "an overwhelming number of dogs" from a Bedford home earlier this year.
On New Year’s Eve, nearly 100 dogs were rescued from one home that was reportedly filled with dog cages stacked floor to ceiling. Several local shelters and foster owners stepped in to take care of the dogs, which suffered from various conditions. Shelter manager Kathy Ramsey said that rescuing the dogs “was emotionally, physically, and mentally very draining.
Bedford airport celebrates 30 years with eyes on future growth

The West End Improvement Group held their annual basket party on Sunday.
The event included a light lunch and several baskets for people to win.
The proceeds from the event go towards the group’s many projects such as the installation of security camera, the 100+ flower boxes that they plant in the summertime, community gardens and events as well as other beautification projects.
Organizers highlight that these initiatives help improve all of Johnstown and not just their neighborhood.
Early morning fire damages multiple businesses in Latrobe-area shopping center
Westmoreland County, PA — Officials in Westmoreland County say multiple businesses were damaged early Tuesday morning as a fire spread through a Latrobe-area shopping center.
According to our NBC affiliate WPXI, flames were seen "shooting through the roof" of the Latrobe 30 shopping plaza in Unity Township.
WPXI reports that eight businesses within the plaza suffered some sort of damage, according to the property owner.
A state police fire marshal has been called in to investigate the cause of the blaze, however, the property owner believes that the fire was electrical.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Justice Department on Thursday formally moved to reclassify marijuana as a less dangerous drug in a historic shift in generations of U.S. drug policy.
A proposed rule sent to the federal register recognizes the medical uses of cannabis and acknowledges it has less potential for abuse than some of the nation's most dangerous drugs. The plan approved by Attorney General Merrick Garland does not legalize marijuana outright for recreational use.
Court upholds sentence of ex-Bellwood-Antis wrestling coach convicted of child sex abuse
Blair Co., PA (WJAC) — The state superior court has upheld the sentence for a former Blair County wrestling coach convicted of child sex abuse.
Convicted sex offender Ryan Blazier will have to serve 21 to 42 years in prison following this week's ruling.
In October of 2021, Blazier was found guilty of sexually abusing two students while serving as a junior high wresting coach at Bellwood-Antis.
His sentence includes a lifetime registry on the sex offender list and he is required to take sex offender classes in prison.
Conemaugh Health System honors local lives lost to COVID-19
Tuesday, ahead of the holidays, Conemaugh Health system honored those who’ve lost their lives to COVID-19.
Conemaugh Health personnel gathered today at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center, Conemaugh Meyersdale Medical Center, Conemaugh Miners Medical Center, and Conemaugh Nason Medical Center to honor local lives lost to COVID-19 throughout the health system.
Personnel say, in recent weeks, they’ve been writing the initials of patients and names of loved ones on luminaries which were seen glowing at each facility Tuesday night.
