Local gym offers new workout experience
A locally owned gym is offering a new workout experience in Cambria County.
The Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting Wednesday at Morgainz Fitness in West Hills where the gym just opened Morgainz Elite Cycle, which they describe as Johnstown’s "premier spin studio", offering state-of-the-art indoor bikes.
Officials said several different types of classes are available, varying from drop-in rates to class packages.
Phoenix Strateneier, Morgainz Elite Cycle Owner, said, “Group fitness and spin has been growing across the country, and people enjoy spin so much because it’s such a fun, dynamic, energetic environment.
Huntingdon man killed in weekend rollover crash in Juniata Township
Huntingdon Co., PA (WJAC) — State police say a Huntingdon man was killed early Sunday morning in a single-vehicle rollover crash in Juniata Township.
Troopers say Reed Peck, 21, was reportedly traveling north on Point Road when his vehicle left the roadway and struck an embankment.
Police say the vehicle then reportedly overturned and struck a tree.
Troopers noted that Peck was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and he was pronounced dead at the scene,
Las Vegas veteran to be gifted specially adapted home after double amputation
LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — A Las Vegas veteran was welcomed to his new community where he is expected to be gifted a specially adapted home by a nonprofit organization after he was injured while serving in Afghanistan.
In 2013, Navy veteran Adrian Walker was deployed with Marine Attack Squadron VMA-231 to Helmand Province, Afghanistan. "In Afghanistan, I noticed I started getting drop foot. I couldn't pick up my foot. I would always tell my guys my legs feel like they are going to explode,"
Whisper Rocks and Lincoln Caverns
HUNTINGDON COUNTY, Pa. (WJAC) — In this segment of Road Trippin’, we go to Lincoln Caverns. In 1930, while construction for Route 22 was underway, the caverns were discovered. In 1938, a second cave named Whisper Rocks was discovered above the original cave.
Lincoln Caverns has been a tourist destination for the past 90 years. The Dunlavy family has owned the land for 88 of those years. Their goal is to not only entertain visitors but also educate them on the importance of preserving the still growing caves.
'Miracle baby' Eli, born without a nose, dies at 2
MOBILE, Ala. (WPMI) - The story of an Alabama baby boy, who was born without a nose, captured hearts across the country but now many are mourning his death.
Eli Thompson's big smile and positive disposition showed the exceptional spirit of a little boy born with big challenges.
Eli was born in 2015 with congenital Arhinia, an extremely rare condition which causes the absence of a nose, nasal or sinus cavities.
Locals remember Farmers Inn restaurant as community staple
SIGEL - A Jefferson County restaurant where generations of customers enjoyed meals was destroyed by an early-morning fire Tuesday. Assistant Chief Justin Miller, with the Sigel Volunteer Fire Department, said crews were called to the restaurant at Farmers Inn on Route 949 around 3:30 a.m.
Owner Kim Lucas said the business just celebrated its 40th anniversary this year. Lucas said Farmers Inn started as a small burger shop in 1977 and quickly grew into a place the community has grown to love.
Penguins raise 2017 Stanley Cup banner, but fall in OT
PITTSBURGH -- Alex Pietrangelo beat Matt Murray 1:15 into overtime to give the St. Louis Blues a 5-4 victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins on Wednesday night in the season opener for both teams.
The Blues recovered after letting a two-goal, third-period lead slip away when Pietrangelo's shot from the slot hit Murray and slipped under the crossbar for his second goal of the game.
Paul Stastny had a goal and an assist for the Blues, Brayden Schenn and Colton Parayko also scored, and Jake Allen finished with 34 saves.
Both sides react to Pennsylvania LGBTQ non-discrimination bill
Lawmakers said the intent of the ‘Fairness Act’ is to add the LGBTQ community into Pennsylvania’s Human Relations Act, which protects against discrimination for reasons like race, gender, or religion. Opposition to the bill said it goes past protecting against discrimination.
State Representative of the 82nd district Paul Takac said, “To ensure that people are treated equally in terms of employment, in terms of education, in terms of housing.”
Supporters say particularly protection in the workplace.
Officials investigating deaths of at least 5 meerkats at Philadelphia Zoo
PHILADELPHIA (CNN) — The Philadelphia Zoo says at least five meerkats have died this month.
Zookeepers are looking into whether a dye used to mark the animals could be a factor, but the chief experience officer says it's been using that substance for 30 years on meerkats.
She says experts from the Association of Zoos and Aquariums and U.S. Agriculture Department are helping to investigate.
