$1.5M grant to go toward indoor sports complex in Centre County

PATTON TOWNSHIP, Pa. - State Sen. Jake Corman announced that the Nittany Valley Sports Centre in Centre County will received a $1.5 million to help complete the second phase of construction. The Nittany Valley Sports Centre will host year-round youth and adult sporting events. “Construction of this facility means year-round training and fitness opportunities for area kids and families,” Corman said. “At the same time, our area will then play host to a number of regional and national indoor tournaments.

Area behavioral health organization opens new location in Bellefonte

CenClear offers outpatient behavioral health and medicine management, as well as a new service. WASHINGTON (TND) — The Biden administration announced Tuesday it will relax some economic sanctions against Cuba, allowing private business owners to access U.S. banks and online payment systems. State Department officials announced they will amend portions of the Cuban Assets Control Regulations, which controls relations between U.S. and Cuba, to allow access to some internet services for Cubans. These changes come as part of attempts to “support the evolution of a freer, more open society in Cuba,” according to the announcement.

Two children killed in early morning fire in Delaware County

Upper Darby Township, PA — Authorities say two children were killed in an early morning house fire in Upper Darby, Delaware County. According to Fire Chief Derrick Sawyer, the fire began at about 4:03 a.m., at a residence along the 300 block of Margate Road. Officials say when crews arrived, they encountered heavy fire on the second floor of the home. Two children were killed in the fire, Sawyer said.

1 injured in crash involving tanker truck along Route 322

UPDATECENTRE COUNTY, Pa. (WJAC) — According to state police in Centre County, one person was injured in Tuesday's crash along Route 322 near Boalsburg. Troopers say the crash occurred just before 3:30 p.m. when the driver of a passenger vehicle crossed the center line and struck a gasoline tanker truck. Investigators say the driver of the passenger vehicle suffered minor injuries and was transported to UPMC Altoona. State police add that the driver will be cited for traffic violations.

Off-duty officer charged for shooting other man during altercation at DuBois business

Clearfield Co., PA (WJAC) — Authorities in Clearfield County say an off-duty police officer is behind bars after he shot another man during an altercation with the owner of a DuBois business over the weekend. Police say officers were dispatched to "Invictus," located along DuBois Street, early Sunday morning for a report of a shooting. "Invictus" is described as a multi-recreational establishment that offers axe-throwing and virtual reality gaming, among other activities.

Officials ID teen who drowned while swimming at Raystown Lake

UPDATE:Huntingdon County, PA — The victim of Saturday's drowning in Huntingdon County has been identified by local school district leaders. Bellefonte Area High School Principal, Mike Fedisson, announcing that 16-year-old Nathan Dan was killed in a swimming accident at Raystown Lake. Fedisson says Dan was a student at the school, and was most recently in athletics, including on the school's lacrosse team. He says, "counseling services will be available for students and staff who may need assistance in coping with the loss.

According to experts, skin cancer is the most common cancer in the world, and melanoma is the most dangerous. “In the United States, about 9,000 people will die from melanoma this year,” said Dr. Lorraine Rosamilia, a dermatologist at Geisinger Medical Group. But, melanoma is a cancer that can often be prevented by avoiding serious skin burns, too much time in the sun, and extended exposure to ultraviolet light in other forms, such as tanning beds.
