New health care facility comes to Clearfield County

CLEARFIELD - A new Penn Highlands Health Care facility is coming to Clearfield County. Lawrence Township Supervisors approved the plans for a walk-in medical clinic called Q-Care, which can be used by patients anytime without an appointment. The plans are to expand the former Northwest Savings Bank on River Road in Clearfield, across from the Big Lots Plaza. The existing building will be renovated and a new addition will be built to create the medical office.

Forest Hills names Myers next head football coach

SIDMAN -- Forest Hills named its next football coach Thursday night at the school board meeting. The board approved Justin Myers to take the reigns following in the footsteps of storied head coach Don Bailey who retired after the end of last season. Myers is a Forest Hills graduate who played football there in the 1990's, and spent last season as an assistant on staff under Bailey. Bailey had been guiding the program since 1974 and tallied 375 career wins at the helm in Ranger country.

Man on seeing Riley Strain on last known path

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WZTV) — As the search for missing University of Missouri student Riley Strain continues, Nashville's Office of Emergency Management used a dive team Saturday for the first time in their water searches for any trace of the 22-year-old. Nothing conclusive was located in the Cumberland River, according to a spokesperson for Nashville OEM. "Today’s search plan included taking each boat out along a specified area near the Riverfront where the missing student was last seen and running each search K9 on the boat individually,"

Volunteers needed for Bible reading marathon at PA state capitol

Blair Co., PA (WJAC) — The Way of Truth Ministries, from Altoona, will be having its second Pennsylvania Bible Reading Marathon, on May 20th through the 24th, on the steps of the state capitol building. Volunteers are needed to fill in 360 15-minute time slots so that the bible can be read continuously for 24 hours a day over the period. Organizers say that they decided to have the event at the state capitol to show lawmakers their commitment to God’s word and hope that they will include themselves in the same commitment.

Steelers signing former Commanders' LB to 3-year deal

Pittsburgh (WJAC) — According to NFL Insider Tom Pelissero, the Pittsburgh Steelers have reportedly agreed to sign former Washington Commanders' linebacker Cole Holcomb to a three-year deal. The 26-year-old started 48 career games during his time with Washington after being drafted in the 5th round of the 2019 NFL Draft. He has played in 50 total games during his four years in the league, recording 4.5 sacks and 388 total tackles, as well as three interceptions and five forced fumbles.

Somerset communities raise over $7K for scholarship fund in memory of Somerset grad, former wrestler

Somerset Co., PA (WJAC) — Communities in Somerset County came together Thursday evening for a fundraising campaign for a scholarship in memory of Andrew Luteri. The Somerset graduate and former wrestler died in a motorcycle crash in August of this year. Wrestling boosters and the family of Luteri started selling T-shirts for the scholarship fund and sold even more at Thursday’s wrestling match between North Star and Somerset. "He was always here lending a hand.

90 cattle dead after dual barn blaze in Bedford County, officials say

BEDFORD COUNTY, Pa. (WJAC) — Multiple fire companies were called late Tuesday morning to a barn fire in Bedford County. The blaze happened at a farm along Route 96 just outside of Alum Bank. The road was shut down as crews battled the flames. A 6 News crew on scene said water was being brought in with tanker trucks near the Alum Bank Volunteer Fire Company. Authorities say 90 cattle were lost in the fire.

'A great day for Johnstown' or 'premature:' Officials react to city's inaugural award from state

CAMBRIA COUNTY, Pa. (WJAC) — The City of Johnstown was presented with an inaugural award from the state Thursday afternoon. Dozens of community leaders gathered at the Holiday Inn -- along Market Street in Downtown Johnstown -- where the Secretary’s Award for Municipal Excellence was presented. It's the first award of it's kind, which will be given out once a year to a community in Pennsylvania that is "driving momentum for change.

Parents raise concerns over use of P.A.S.S. survey in schools

Johnstown, PA (WJAC) — A recent student survey in the Westmont Hilltop School District has some parents asking questions. The district says the survey is designed to get information on students’ attitudes about their school and classroom work, but some parents want more transparency on what’s being asked and what is being done with the data. On Tuesday, parents received a letter informing them of their child's participation in a brief survey to assist the district in uncovering and addressing the social and emotional barrier that affects the wellbeing of the students.
