Nanty Glo Volunteer Fire Department hosts firemen's convention

Friday marks the second day of the 130th Central District Volunteer Firemen's Association Convention hosted by the Nanty Glo Volunteer Fire Department. The convention is a 3-day event and ends Saturday with a grand parade at 5pm. Today's festivities included a queen contest, a battle of the barrell and a memorial service. There are also various food and craft vendors as well as a basket raffle. While the purpose of the convention is to have fun and support your local fire department, firefighters remind us just how important these types of events are for their fundraising efforts.

Curve drop season opener to New Hampshire

Altoona, PA (WJAC) — The Altoona Curve began its 25th season Thursday against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats. The team’s general manager says the fan support is what has allowed the team to make it this long. He says former players will be coming back throughout the year to celebrate the milestone season, starting with Brad Eldred for opening night. The GM also noted that work has been done to the left field party deck and, later in the year, different inflatables will be added to the kids’ zone, as well as several upgrades to facilities for players.

WASHINGTON (WJLA) — Tuesday marks 13 days since a protest encampment, which remains a steadfast presence as streets remain closed, took over the U-Yard at George Washington University. Over the weekend, University President Ellen Granberg released a message on the university’s website in response to the ongoing campus protests stating what’s happening on campus is unlawful. “I fully support and encourage our community to speak out and engage in controversial and critical dialogues on these crucial issues—as long as they occur within the limits of our university's policies and the District's laws,” the letter reads.

Boston Celtics clinch spot in NBA Finals with 105-102 win over Indiana Pacers

Ferguson Twp. Police form cold case team, ask for public's help

Ferguson Township police are asking for the public’s help in solving a nearly 3-year-old homicide. Police said for the first time in the department’s history, they’ve dedicated a cold case team to investigate three unsolved cases, including the homicide of Jean Tuggy. Tuggy was found in her home on Irion Street shot in the face with no sign of a struggle or break-in Jan. 20, 2016, according to police. They said they’re bringing fresh eyes to the cases, and that’s why they’re asking for help from anyone with information.

Dominos in Somerset hosts fundraiser to support families of I-83 crash victims

Domino’s on Main Street in Somerset is holding a fundraiser in support of the families of the victims who died in the crash on I-83 last month. It’s been over a month since the crash on I-83 in York County claimed the lives of three Somerset County men. When Domino’s general manager Melissa Ansell heard about the crash, she says she immediately got to work. Ansell says she connected with an official from the victims’ workplace to organize a fundraiser for their families.
