Coroner IDs victim of fatal motorcycle crash in Northern Cambria
UPDATE | CAMBRIA COUNTY, Pa. (WJAC) — Cambria County coroner Jeff Lees has identified the victim of Sunday's fatal motorcycle crash in Northern Cambria.
Authorities say 54-year-old Brian Davis, of Northern Cambria, was reportedly traveling northbound on Deveaux Street when he crossed into the opposite lane and "side-swiped" another vehicle.
Investigators say Davis was ejected from the motorcycle and was transported to Miners Hospital where he later died in the emergency room.
Philly man free after 37 years due to 'sex for lies' false witness
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — A Philadelphia man was freed from prison Tuesday after 37 years in a case marred by detectives who allegedly offered a witness sex and drugs at police headquarters in 1983 in exchange for false testimony.
The trial witness was charged with perjury just days after Willie Stokes was convicted of murder in 1984. But Stokes didn’t learn about that perjury plea until 2015, decades into a life sentence.
Port Matilda continues Earth Day traditions in memory of late school employee
Centre Co., PA (WJAC) — Students at Port Matilda Elementary School in Centre County are spending the rest of the school week doing activities related to Earth Day.
On Thursday, the students participated in painting bird houses, planting trees and crops, and more; and students will plant more seeds and flowers on Friday.
The Port Matilda staff chose to continue Earth Day student activities in memory of long-time elementary school employee Bindy Bracken.
Westmont Hilltop students rewarded with ice skating trip
A December reward for students happened today in the Westmont Hilltop School District.
The administration awarded all students with no disciplinary referrals, failing grades and unexcused absences the opportunity to go ice skating at the 1st Summit Arena at Cambria County War Memorial.
Superintendent Thomas Mitchell said it was a great external motivator for the students to blow off a little bit of steam before Christmas break.
“Really, it’s been awesome that the War Memorial was able to partner with us and give us a really good deal on the ice time and work with us on the rentals.
Suspect sought after Giant Eagle robbery
JOHNSTOWN, Pa. (WJAC) — Police are searching for a man they believe robbed a Giant Eagle in Johnstown.
Johnstown police responded to the supermarket along Broad Street and Fairfield Avenue just before 2 p.m. Monday. Police said a man walked up to a cashier, placed something against his back and demanded all the $20 bills in the register.
Officers said the suspect is a white man with a beard. He was wearing a navy jacket, black hat and jeans at the time of the robbery.

School voucher program in jeopardy as PA House passes budget
HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHP) — The Pennsylvania House passed the budget on Wednesday evening in a 117-86 vote. The Senate now has to sign it before it will head to Governor Josh Shapiro's desk.
But, a program that supporters said would have given students in Pennsylvania the chance to get a scholarship to leave an under performing school district and go to another appears to be on the cutting room floor. It comes after Shapiro on Wednesday announced that he would line item veto money in the Senate version of the state's budget that would have set aside $100 million for the program.

Longtime Pirates 2B Stennett dies at 72 after cancer fight
PITTSBURGH (AP) — Former Pittsburgh Pirate second baseman Rennie Stennett has died following a fight with cancer. He was 72. Stennett spent nine of his 11 big league seasons with the Pirates, helping the team win the 1979 World Series. Stennett hit .274 for his career and twice received votes for the National League's Most Valuable Player award. He started at second base on Sept. 1, 1971, when the Pirates fielded the first all-Black starting lineup in MLB history.
