Residents of Washington state island prepare as Ferrymageddon begins
BAINBRIDGE ISLAND, Wash. (KOMO) — Bainbridge Island is working out contingencies as they prepare for "Ferrymageddon," a full week without ferry service for anything other than people walking on board a boat.
"Ferrymageddon," the word now coined on Bainbridge Island, starts Thursday and will last through Sept. 13. Washington State Ferries (WSF) is using the entire week to work on construction of a new pedestrian walkway at the Bainbridge Island ferry terminal.
Northern Cambria School District residents react to New Building Project
The Northern Cambria School District is in the planning phase of consolidating its high school with the elementary/middle school. Throughout its past meetings they presented several options to the public, but many residents take issue with the idea itself as it will raise taxes in the area.
The district has since drawn up plans with an architect and posted a real estate tax calculator on their website so that residents can find out their tax increase as a result of the project.
'He was a leader!' West Branch school district mourns loss of 17-year-old student
Clearfield Co., PA (WJAC) — The West Branch Area School District is mourning the loss of high school student Asher Deets, who was killed in a house fire in Morrisdale early Monday morning.
Officials say the fire started around 3 a.m. and the house on Morrisdale Allport Highway was "completely destroyed" by the blaze.
A GoFundMe was created Tuesday in his memory.
Deets is described by the school district as someone who was known for his smile and positive attitude.
Couple starts foundation to honor daughter who passed away

Ex charged in Pitt student's death arrested in South Carolina
PITTSBURGH -- The ex-boyfriend of a University of Pittsburgh student found slain in her off-campus apartment on Sunday has been arrested in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
Pittsburgh police have confirmed the arrest of 21-year-old Matthew Darby, but not provided details about the arrest at about 12:45 a.m. Wednesday.
Darby was charged Tuesday evening with criminal homicide in the death of Alina Sheykhet. Police say they found a claw hammer and two knives in a sewer drain near Sheykhet's apartment.
88-year-old woman sells castle to be with family
CRAVANT, France (WKRC) - An elderly woman sold her castle in order to live closer to her family. According to WECB, 88-year-old Colette Béchet sold her medieval castle, which is located in Cravant, France. Per the outlet, the donjon, or keep, sits atop an outcrop in the Yonne region of the country and has been something of a passion project. Béchet lived in the historic structure for over four decades, according to WECB, which reported that she saw the 25-meter-high keep back in 1983 while out on a stroll and purchased it the very next day.

Authorities in Blair County say a man is facing charges after he was accused of abusing a young child and a dog by throwing said child onto the animal and killing it.

Altoona police say officers were dispatched to the Evergreen Manors apartment complex, on the night of May 25th, after a witness reported seeing a man assaulting an 18-month-old child.
Pentz Run Youth Services breaks ground on new building for at risk youth
DuBois, PA — Pentz Run Youth Services in DuBois is a residential program for at risk disadvantaged youth. This afternoon they hosted a groundbreaking ceremony for their new facility in hopes of continuing that mission.
Pentz Run Youth Services provides alternative living arrangement for kids throughout the commonwealth.
"Those are the kids who might have some behavioral issues or some lack of supervision at home, maybe some truency issues," said Debbie Gregori, Executive Director of Pentz Run Youth Services.
