Parents of Penn State student Timothy Piazza continue motion to resolve ongoing civil suit

State College, PA (WJAC) — It has been over five years since Penn State student Timothy Piazza died after an alcohol fueled hazing event at a university fraternity. His death sparked new hazing legislation, along with a nationwide awareness campaign, but a civil suit filed by his parents has still not been resolved. Earlier this week, in federal court, James and Evelyn Piazza asked a judge for a ruling that could end a years-long delay in their wrongful death suit.

Rapper Sean Kingston booked into Florida jail, where he and mother are charged with fraud

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) — Rapper and singer Sean Kingston is back in South Florida, where he and his mother are charged with committing more than a million dollars' worth of fraud. Kingston, 34, was booked into the Broward County jail on Sunday, according to jail records. He was arrested May 23 at Fort Irwin, an Army training base in California’s Mojave Desert where he was performing. Last week, he waived his right to fight extradition in a California court and agreed to be turned over to authorities in Florida.

Woodward-area woman accused of murder claims PTSD, Battered Woman Syndrome

Centre Co., PA (WJAC) — The Woodward woman charged with murder now says a mental condition will be part of her defense. That’s the latest in the case involving Brittany Guisewhite, who is accused of stabbing a man to death at her Woodward-area home in April of last year. In a new court filing, Guisewhite's attorney says a doctor could provide expert testimony that she, at the time of the deadly stabbing, was suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder and would meet the criteria for Battered Woman Syndrome.

Somerset Co., PA (WJAC) — A local community is in shock after a woman was killed over the weekend when a tractor malfunctioned at the Union County West End Fair. The Somerset County mother leaves behind two children and a husband and people who knew her reflected on who she was as a person. It was on Friday when police said 33-year-old Brandy Horner was attending the county fair’s tractor pull.

Man acquitted of rape and other charges

CAMBRIA COUNTY, Pa — A Cambria County man was acquitted of all charges in a Jackson Township rape case. David Dernar, was accused of forcible rape, involuntary deviant sexual intercourse, aggravated indecent assault and sexual assault, according to online court documents. The District Attorney’s office confirmed Dernar was found not guilty on all charges on Tuesday. Police say in April of 2004, Dernar, who was 34 at the time, allegedly assaulted a 16-year-old girl at a home along Trout Street in Jackson Township.
