BEDFORD COUNTY, Pa (WJAC) — The Bedford County Humane Society took in what they call "an overwhelming number of dogs" from a Bedford home earlier this year.
On New Year’s Eve, nearly 100 dogs were rescued from one home that was reportedly filled with dog cages stacked floor to ceiling. Several local shelters and foster owners stepped in to take care of the dogs, which suffered from various conditions. Shelter manager Kathy Ramsey said that rescuing the dogs “was emotionally, physically, and mentally very draining.”
With the help of donations, foster relationships, and even adoptions, the health and daily lives of the rescued dogs have improved tremendously. Foster owner Michele Miller took in Murdoch the basset hound shortly after his rescue, and she says that since being taken home, he’s a brand-new dog.
“He is a lot happier now. My other two basset hounds Panda and George have showed him how to be a dog. He wasn’t sure how to be a dog because he knew nothing about being a dog,” said Miller.
The previous owners, Renee Piper and Nyal Piper, are now facing hundreds of animal cruelty charges.
