STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (WJAC) — There's another round of layoffs at the Mount Nittany Medical Center in State College as 250 employees are losing their jobs.
Administrators say they're struggling with a huge loss in revenue during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Mount Nittany Health employees are receiving word of the latest layoffs Tuesday in an email from President and CEO Kathleen Rhine.
She confirms that 10 percent of the workforce -- 250 positions -- are being eliminated with the center facing a $70 million shortfall in the current fiscal year.
Other restructuring changes include a 10 percent pay cut for executives and reductions in spending elsewhere.
Administrators say the health system does not plan to reduce programs and services and will maintain current nurse-to-patient and nursing assistant-to-patient staffing ratios.
The latest job cuts follow last month's reduction of 50 management positions at Mount Nittany Health.
