PHILADELPHIA (WKRC) — Five men accused of impersonating police officers to kidnap and kill a 28-year-old man were charged on Thursday.
They kidnapped and killed the man in 2006.
The group posed as police officers using fake badges, police lights and firearms, according to the indictment filed in the U.S. District Court in Eastern Pennsylvania.
Shamari Taylor and his 21-year-old girlfriend were kidnapped because they wanted his cocaine and drug money, according to CBS News.
Taylor was the son of a former state representative.
According to CBS News, after the couple was kidnapped they were taken to a warehouse and his girlfriend was released several hour later.
The next day Taylor's sister and mother were both shot in their heads but survived.
Taylor's remains weren't discovered until 12 years later in 2018, according to the Department of Justice news release.
Kenneth Tuck was arrested and charged in connection to Taylor's kidnapping in 2006 but was acquitted off all charges.
The Department of Justice said in its news release that Tuck's family bribed a witness to provide false testimony that supported Tuck's alibi for the evening Taylor was abducted.
The investigation was continued until charges were filed on Thursday.
