A Johnstown man convicted of shooting and killing a local high schooler over two years ago was sentenced to life in prison on Monday.

In February, a jury found Qwante Rose guilty of first-degree murder in the slaying of 19-year-old Jaydin Sanderson on New Year's Day 2022.

Police say Sanderson's body was found inside a vehicle along Wood Street in the Hornerstown section of the city.

Investigators later learned that Rose and Sanderson had been in a relationship together, and the pair had reportedly attended a New Year's Eve party just hours before the shooting.

Authorities say a witness also reported that Rose had confessed to killing Sanderson by shooting her in the back of the head.

The Commonwealth thanks JPD and the many Law Enforcement Officers from supporting agencies, The Cambria County Coroner's Office, Pennsylvania State Police Crime Lab, staff of the District Attorney's Office, and all of the many other people involved for their tireless work on this case. Justice for Jaydin and her senseless murder was finalized today. While we are happy with the outcome of the trial and his sentencing, nothing can bring back Jaydin, and our thoughts and prayers continue to be with her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her.
