MADERA, Calif. (KMPH) — A Subway manager is recovering from injuries to her face after a customer decided to attack employees for not putting enough meat on his sandwich.

The manager who was hit in the face said the customer escalated the situation because he wanted more ham.

I did not expect this. He comes around the corner, and I go, 'What are you going to do, hit me over ham?' and he hit me. He punched me, and all I could remember is just black," said Subway General Manager Monique Larios.

She was called in to work that day by her employees, who said a man was mad because he didn't get double ham on his sandwich.

Even though the store had proof, he only paid to have six extra slices of meat, not 12, according to Larios.

"I still can't feel half of my face, I can't feel nothing," she said. "I'm scared that there's going to be some kind of damage permanent. I've never been so numb to where my face feels like its a mask, you know?"

Madera police officers said they arrested George Sandoval, the man who they say hit Larios that night for the battery.

Police said having a reaction like that is never OK.

"Never. They went behind the counter, I believe, and punched the female manager," Madera Police Sgt. Brent Cedarquist said.

Larios said she never stood a chance.

"I'm 4'11, and this guy was 6'5, almost 400 pounds," she said.

Now Larios said she's scared to go back to work.

"I did not deserve this at all; I was just in there doing my job," she said. "There was nothing wrong, the sandwich was made to our subway standards. I don't know. He didn't even give me a chance to try to figure out what he wanted."

The manager, who is still out on leave, said she plans on pressing charges and potentially even suing the man for what he did.

Subway will be providing workers' compensation for Larios while she is out.
