Pittsburgh (WJAC) — The Pittsburgh Steelers announced that Hall of Fame offensive guard Alan Faneca will be taking part in the team's draft festivities this year.
Faneca is scheduled to announce the Steelers' second round draft pick.
"It's always nice to get back in and be a part of anything NFL related, anything Steelers related," said Faneca. "It's fun to step back into that world a little bit. And I'm bringing my son, Burton, with me. It's nice to really share those moments with my kids who weren't around much at all when I was playing. He's been asking lots of questions just randomly in the car. It shows me he's been thinking about it. He's excited. He loves to get back and be a part of it. To see that excitement and to be able to share with him gets me excited."
Faneca was drafted by Pittsburgh in the first round of the 1998 NFL draft and played 10 seasons for the Steelers.
He was selected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2021.
The team also announced that current linebacker Alex Highsmith and former linebacker LaMarr Woodley will help announce the team's 4th round selection.
Woodley and Highsmith will make the announcement from Guadalajara, Mexico while attending the team's Youth Flag Football Tournament.
The 2023 NFL Draft kicks off Thursday at 8 p.m. on the networks of ESPN and the NFL Network.
This year's draft is being held in Kansas City.
