Johnstown's Panera Bread, located in the Richland Town Center, has been cited by a state health inspector for a reported "fly infestation," according to a report on pafoodsafety.gov.

The follow-up inspection was conducted on Friday as the inspector provided the following comments:

This is a follow up inspection of a limited service retail food facility due to a fruit or drain fly infestation on the inspection of 1-29-20. Since that time fruit fly infestation has become much worse with increased numbers of flies and more areas of the store where the flies are present. Facility will be listed out of compliance and a warning letter will be issued to this facility from the Pa Dept of Agriculture Region 5 Office for uncontrolled pests in a food prep area. Agent will return with in 2 weeks for a follow up inspection. Failure to comply on the inspection could result in a $150.00 of $300.00 re-inspection fee.

The inspector also made specific notes regarding how "infested" the restaurant is.

Noted 10 drain flies in the bakery area on the walls, noted 50 drain flies in the sandwich prep area on the walls and ceiling, noted 10 drain flies on the wall in the soft drink area, noted 25 drain flies on the floor under the hot soup heating unit. UV light fly traps have been installed but they are ineffective with no flies in the trap. This is the worst fly infestation in the past 6 months. A solution for the fly problem must be found.

Reports show that this has been a reoccurring issue dating back to July of 2019.

6 News has reached out to Panera Bread's corporate office for a statement but has yet to hear back.
