Laurel Highlands Conservatory invited Bob Burchfield of the Fairview Energy Center to give a presentation on Saturday.

Fairview Energy is an innovative natural gas plant that has the capability of powering over a million homes and went commercial in December of 2019.

The plant uses a number of methods to break records in efficiency and make it a viable option in terms of more sustainable energy generation. One of those methods is a combined cycle process that re-captures steam to power a turbine.

“It’s all about how soon we can get there, safely, and keep the grid reliable," said Burchfield, who is also the plant manager. "So, you need a good mix of all of the technologies, and we try to demonstrate how this particular technology fits into that role as we transition into more renewables.”

The Fairview Energy plant is available to the public for free tours so that you can learn more about environmentally responsible energy.
