Prosecutors in Somerset County say a former county 911 coordinator who is accused of sexually abusing multiple children has been released from jail after a judge granted a motion to reduce his bail.

District Attorney Molly Metzgar says Bradley Lavan applied for the bail reduction earlier this year and during a status hearing on Thursday, the judge reduced his bail from $750,000 straight to $500,000 secured.

Officials say the change in bail meant that Lavan only needed to post $50,000 to be released from custody, which he has since done.

"We adamantly opposed the modification, as we believed he needed to remain behind bars awaiting trial in order to protect society," Metzgar stated.

Lavan was charged last September following a police investigation into allegations that he had sexually abused at least five children.

Authorities say the alleged abuse occurred at Lavan's home over a two-year period.

In November, Lavan appeared in court where the charges were bound for trial.

Court dockets show that Lavan faces a variety of charges, including multiple counts of rape of a child and involuntary deviate sexual intercourse with a child.

Prosecutors add that Lavan's attorneys continued the case and his next status hearing is scheduled for April 3rd.
