Jackson Township residents showed up in force Monday evening to the Central Cambria School District board meeting in hopes of saving the Jackson Elementary School.

It was recently reported that the school board is moving forward with a feasibility study to determine whether merging its elementary schools into one building would benefit the district.

This comes as the district and its residents are facing a multi-million-dollar tax bill after the CPV powerplant was overvalued by nearly 5-times what it's worth, directly affecting taxes in the area.

On Monday, the board was presented with a petition with more than 500 signatures of residents who are urging the board to keep Jackson Elementary open.

"It's just not fair. The impact on our community is going to be far and wide. That's why we're here in force, to protest this."

No decision was made during Monday’s meeting as the feasibility study will take months to complete.
