A local barbershop in Johnstown has partnered with the city police department to provide free haircuts for students in need.

“A haircut goes a long way and it’s not a big deal for me to give it away but it’s a huge deal for someone to get it.”

“Barbers and Gents” in downtown Johnstown is making sure every student looks their very best going back to school.

Owner Reese Henderson says he's giving back to the community because no kid should go to school without a haircut.

So, the barbershop partnered with the Johnstown Police Department, specifically Officer Charles Cypher, to give coupons to kids in the area for a free haircut.

“These are the things that work. There’s so much negativity out here that a lot of people have different outlooks. This kind of stuff in the community, in my opinion, is the only thing that works.”

Both Officer Cypher and Henderson say the community response has been amazing.

“It's the least I can do, Johnstown has been gracious and accepting of me.”

The Johnstown Police Department is also emphasizing how important community relations are and how an opportunity like this helps build relations.

“It's very important to reach out to the community, being out in the community and getting to know people and people knowing you."

"It helps us to maintain our community support that we desperately need to do our job, so it’s great.”

There are still about 15 coupons available.

Just call the Johnstown police non-emergency line at 814-472-2100, and ask for Officer Cypher to get a coupon
